Smoking prohibited in city parks and beaches

Since 2011 New York City bans smoking in all city parks, beaches, and pedestrian plazas under local public health regulations. The prohibition is enforced by the Parks Enforcement Patrol and Sanitation officers, with signage posted at major public spaces such as Coney Island and Prospect Park. The rule is citywide and applies to both cigarettes and many other smoked tobacco products in those outdoor municipal spaces.
