Palace of the Legion of Honor

The Palace of the Legion of Honor opened in 1924 as a memorial to Californians who died in World War I and was modeled after the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur in Paris. It is part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and houses European paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts, including a noted cast of Rodin's The Thinker. The building and its setting in Lincoln Park are themselves architectural attractions and longstanding cultural landmarks in the city.
