Assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk

On November 27, 1978, former Supervisor Dan White entered San Francisco City Hall and fatally shot Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk in separate offices. The killings took place inside City Hall and prompted widespread grief, protests, and a controversial trial that led to the White Night riots. Both deaths are among the most consequential political murders in San Francisco history.
