John Bliss House

The John Bliss House, located at 2 Wilbur Avenue near Bliss Road in Newport, Rhode Island, is a historic stone ender house dating back to the late seventeenth century. Built around 1679/1680 by Quaker Elder John Bliss, it is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the state and showcases Jacobean architecture. The property was originally deeded to Bliss by his father-in-law, Governor Benedict Arnold, and has remained in the family for generations. Notable for its large stone chimney, the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2025 and remains privately owned.
