Beauregard Parish Training School

The Beauregard Parish Training School, operational from 1929 to 1970 in DeRidder, Louisiana, was a significant institution for African-American education, being the first of its kind in southwestern Louisiana to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Established to train black teachers and provide quality education, it was part of a broader movement initiated in 1911 to enhance educational opportunities for African-American youth in the South. The school offered a comprehensive curriculum and served as a model for other black schools, emphasizing both academic and manual training.
