House of the Temple (Scottish Rite)

The House of the Temple at 1733 16th Street NW serves as the headquarters of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, and was completed in 1915. Designed by architect John Russell Pope, the building was modeled in part on the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus and is a noted example of neoclassical architecture in the city. The property includes the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library and offers public tours and occasional lectures.
