James 'Whitey' Bulger indicted and tried in Boston federal court

James 'Whitey' Bulger, the long-time Boston crime boss of the Winter Hill Gang, was extradited to Boston after his June 2011 arrest in Santa Monica. His federal racketeering and murder trial was held at the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse. In 2013 a jury in that courthouse convicted Bulger on multiple counts including racketeering, extortion and 11 murders; he was later sentenced to life in prison.
