Arsenal (Central Park)

The Arsenal is a historic brick building located in Central Park, Manhattan, built between 1847 and 1851 as a storehouse for the New York State Militia. Designed by Martin E. Thompson, it features Gothic Revival details and is notable for its symmetrical structure and decorative elements, including a bald eagle and military motifs. The building, which is the second-oldest structure in Central Park, now houses the offices of various city departments and an art gallery, while also preserving the original 'Greensward Plan' for Central Park. Visitors can explore its rich history and artistic murals depicting Civil War-era New York life.
