Denver Basin groundwater system under Denver

The Denver Basin aquifer system underlies the Denver metropolitan area and comprises four principal water-bearing units typically named Dawson, Denver, Arapahoe, and Laramie-Fox Hills. These sedimentary aquifers supply groundwater to municipal, agricultural, and domestic wells in and around Denver and have been the subject of long-term monitoring and study. Groundwater-level declines and localized drawdown from pumping have been documented in parts of the basin. Denver Water and state agencies publish data and reports about the basin and its role as a major underground water resource for the city.
