St. Dominic's Church (Portland, Maine)

St. Dominic's Church, established in 1833, is the first Roman Catholic church in Portland, Maine, and a significant landmark in the city's Irish-American history. Located at the intersection of Gray Street and State Street, it served a vibrant community until its parish closure in 1997. The church is now part of the Maine Irish Heritage Center, which has undertaken renovations to preserve its historical significance, including the installation of a handicap-accessible elevator and ongoing maintenance funded by state grants.
