Arena Stage (Mead Center) - Pioneering Regional Theatre

Arena Stage was founded in 1950 by Zelda Fichandler, Edward Mangum, and Thomas C. McNulty and is recognized as one of the first resident regional theatres in the United States. The company occupies the Mead Center for American Theater at its Southwest Washington site and the complex was expanded and reopened after a major renovation in 2010. Arena Stage has a documented history of commissioning new American plays and serving as a long-standing cultural landmark in the city.
