Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern - large 1920s underground reservoir repurposed as public space

The Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is a decommissioned 1926 drinking-water reservoir beneath Buffalo Bayou Park that covers roughly 87,500 square feet. It is one of the largest historic underground reservoirs in the city and was retrofitted and reopened as an art and event space in 2016. The cistern hosts guided tours, temporary art installations, and public programs within its vaulted concrete interior.
