Alexander Bestuzhev House

The Alexander Bestuzhev House is a captivating writer's house museum located in Derbent, Dagestan, where the Decembrist writer Alexander Bestuzhev resided from 1830 to 1834 after his exile. This two-story stone house, a fine example of late 18th to early 19th-century Derbent architecture, showcases the life and times of Bestuzhev through its recreated living spaces filled with authentic furnishings and personal items. The museum also features a poignant memorial to Olga Nestertseva, a young seamstress who tragically died in an accident at the house. Opened in 1988, the museum is part of the Derbent State Historical, Architectural and Archaeological Museum-Reserve, making it a significant cultural site for both tourists and researchers interested in Russian literary history and the Decembrist movement.
