Jemison–Van de Graaff Mansion

The Jemison–Van de Graaff Mansion, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is a stunning 26-room Italianate historic house that showcases early modern plumbing and gas lighting technology. Designed by architect Samuel Sloan for prominent local figure Robert Jemison, Jr., construction began in 1859 and was largely completed by 1862, despite challenges from the Civil War. The mansion has served various purposes over the years, including a library and publishing house, before being restored as a historic house museum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and is now a popular destination for tourists and researchers interested in architectural history and Southern heritage.
