Built between 1917 and 1919 by architects Alberto Siegel and Augusto Geiger, it became a prominent social hub in the 1930s, hosting famous guests like Gary Cooper and Clark Gable. The building is notable for its dramatic history, including two infamous crimes of passion by female writers. After the hotel closed in 1978, it was repurposed for commercial use, with a department store now occupying the space.
