Charging Bull guerrilla installation

Arturo Di Modica installed the bronze Charging Bull as an unauthorized guerrilla sculpture in front of the New York Stock Exchange overnight on December 15, 1989; after public attention the city accepted and relocated the work. The sculpture weighs approximately 7,100 pounds and has become an enduring piece of public art associated with the Financial District. Its installation is a noted example of a surprise, artist-placed public artwork that was later formalized by municipal authorities.
