Bank of New South Wales building, Townsville

The Bank of New South Wales Building, located at 101–111 Flinders Street in Townsville, Queensland, is a historic site built in 1887 by Denis Kelleher. This heritage-listed structure served as the bank's premises and was designed by Sydney architect John Smedley. It played a significant role in the establishment of banking in North Queensland, being the second bank to open in Townsville. The building features a rich history, including its use during World War II as a communication center for allied forces. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992 and is now known as the Australian Meat Industry Employees Union (Queensland Branch).
