Golden Gate Bridge suicides (bodies recovered near Fort Point)

Since the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, there have been more than 1,600 confirmed suicides by people jumping from the bridge. Many bodies from those jumps have been recovered below or downstream from the bridge near Fort Point at its southern anchorage. The frequency of jumps has made the bridge one of the world’s most well-known suicide sites and has led to long-running debates and measures to prevent further deaths.
