Whaley House - Gallows Hill execution site

The Whaley House in Old Town San Diego was built by Thomas Whaley in 1857 on the former location of the county courthouse and a gallows known historically as Gallows Hill. In 1852 a convicted felon known as "Yankee Jim" Robinson was hanged at that site prior to the house's construction. The building is now a museum and its association with the execution has made it a longstanding element of San Diego crime lore; reports of hauntings and their veracity are debated.
