Iron Bridge at Howard Hill Road

The Iron Bridge at Howard Hill Road is a modern pony truss bridge located in southeastern Cavendish, Vermont, spanning the Black River. It replaced a historic 1890 Pratt through truss bridge, which is now in storage and was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The modern bridge, built on concrete footings, serves local traffic and showcases the engineering evolution from its historic predecessor, which was notable for its wrought and cast iron construction. The original bridge, measuring 88 feet long and 14 feet wide, is one of the few remaining pin-connected truss bridges from the 19th century in Vermont, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring the region's architectural history.
