The Grotto (National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother)

Commonly known as The Grotto, this Catholic shrine and botanical sanctuary opened to the public in the early 1920s and features a cliffside shrine, Stations of the Cross, and landscaped gardens. The site combines religious, cultural, and horticultural elements and is a documented pilgrimage and tourist destination in northeast Portland. The Grotto is maintained by the Order of Friars Minor and holds regular devotional services and seasonal events.
