ENIAC reconfigured to execute stored programs

In 1948 engineers at the Moore School reconfigured ENIAC so it could execute programs stored in its function tables rather than being programmed only by plugboards and rewiring. This modification allowed ENIAC to run sequences of instructions that anticipated stored-program operation and is documented as one of the earliest uses of stored-instruction techniques on an electronic computer. The reconfiguration and subsequent runs took place at the Moore School of the University of Pennsylvania. The work contributed to the transition from experimental calculators to modern programmable computers.
