Fort Negley (Civil War masonry and earthwork fortification)

Fort Negley was constructed by Union Army forces in 1862–1863 after the capture of Nashville, with the labor of formerly enslaved and free African American workers contributing to its construction. The site includes surviving stone and earthen fortifications and has undergone archaeological investigation and partial reconstruction. A visitor center and interpretive signage now explain the fort's military role and its significance in Nashville's Civil War history.
