Madam Walker Legacy Center (Madam Walker Building)

The Madam Walker Legacy Center occupies the historic Madam Walker Building, completed in 1927 as headquarters for Madam C.J. Walker's business and community activities. The center preserves exhibits about Walker, who built a nationally known haircare company while living and working in Indianapolis, and it hosts arts, educational, and cultural programs. The building is a locally significant landmark on Indiana Avenue and is often less visited than downtown museums, making its collections and programs a harder-to-find aspect of Indianapolis history.
