Lorraine Motel - site of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination

On April 4, 1968 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot while standing on the balcony outside Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel. The building at this address was later preserved and converted into the National Civil Rights Museum, which interprets the assassination and the civil rights movement. The motel façade, sign, and Room 306 are maintained as part of the museum's exhibits. The event at this location is one of the most widely documented moments in Memphis history.
