Ilseder Hütte

The Ilseder Hütte, located in Ilsede, Lower Saxony, Germany, is a historic former ironworks that played a significant role in the coal and steel industry from its establishment in 1853. Initially founded by Carl Hostmann and later taken over by the Aktiengesellschaft Ilseder Hütte in 1858, the facility thrived despite geographical challenges, expanding significantly during the German Empire. Key developments included the addition of a rolling mill in 1872 and a third blast furnace in 1879. The company underwent several mergers, including with Salzgitter AG in 1970, and ceased ore mining in 1978. Today, the site has transformed into an industrial park, with some buildings repurposed for events, making it an interesting destination for tourists and researchers interested in industrial history.
