Kandawgyi Palace Hotel

The Kandawgyi Palace Hotel, a historical landmark in Yangon, Myanmar, was originally built in 1934 as the Rangoon Rowing Club for British officers. Over the years, it transformed from a welfare department during World War II to a biological museum, and finally into a hotel in 1979. In 1993, it underwent significant redevelopment to resemble a traditional Southeast Asian palace. Tragically, on October 19, 2017, the hotel was destroyed by a fire caused by an electrical malfunction, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to guests and firefighters. The site remains a poignant reminder of the city's rich history and the impact of its loss.
