Chkalov Stairs

The Chkalov Stairs, a monumental staircase in Nizhny Novgorod, is the longest in Russia, featuring 560 steps and connecting Minin and Pozharsky Square with the Volga embankments. Designed by architects Alexander Yakovlev, Lev Rudnev, and Vladimir Munts, it was inaugurated in 1949 and includes two observation platforms offering stunning views. The staircase is named after the aviator Valery Chkalov and is a popular site for sports events and tourism, having undergone its last restoration in 2013. Visitors can also see the nearby monument to the boat 'Hero' at the Lower-Volga embankment, making it a significant cultural and historical landmark.
