Mary McLeod Bethune Council House National Historic Site

The Mary McLeod Bethune Council House at 1318 Vermont Avenue NW served as the national headquarters for the National Council of Negro Women, an organization Bethune founded in 1935. The house is preserved as a National Historic Site and museum documenting Bethune's work in education, civil rights, and public service. Exhibits and the preserved office spaces interpret her leadership and the council's mid-20th-century activities.
