Zero Milestone at the Ellipse

The Zero Milestone is a granite marker on the Ellipse intended as the starting point from which distances to cities in the United States would be measured; it was dedicated in 1923. The marker is a stepped granite column crowned by a bronze compass and bears inscriptions recording its purpose and dedication. It sits within President's Park near the White House and is documented by the National Park Service.
