Starling Childs Camp

The Starling Childs Camp is a historic cottage located on the picturesque south shore of Doolittle Lake in Norfolk, Connecticut. Built in 1923 by architect Alfredo S.G. Taylor, this unique structure showcases an idiosyncratic design that reflects the rustic charm of the area. The camp features a 1+1⁄2-story frame structure with a striking lake-front facade, rounded-arch openings, and a broad gable end with an expansive porch. Originally part of a large landholding by the Benedict family, the site became a sought-after summer retreat area following the arrival of the railroad in the late 19th century. The camp was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1982, highlighting its architectural significance and connection to the local history of exclusive summer properties.
