Greater Union Baptist Church

Greater Union Baptist Church, located in Chicago's Near West Side, is a historic landmark built in 1886 and designed by renowned architect William Le Baron Jenney. Originally established as the Church of the Redeemer, a Universalist congregation, it played a significant role in the community, particularly during the Civil War with its anti-slavery stance. The church has hosted notable figures and events throughout its history, including a controversial sermon by Rev. Thomas B. Gregory in 1897 and a gospel concert in 1971 featuring prominent artists.
