Joseph Smith Mansion House

The Joseph Smith Mansion House, located in Nauvoo, Illinois, is a historic residence that served as the home of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. Built in the Greek Revival style and first occupied in 1843, the house functioned as a boarding house and hotel, offering hospitality to numerous visitors. Smith initially provided free lodging but later began charging guests due to financial strains. The Mansion House also hosted significant events, including the performance of temple ordinances and the display of Smith's and his brother's bodies after their deaths in 1844. The site is now part of the Nauvoo Historic District and has been preserved as a tourist museum, reflecting its rich history and connection to early Latter Day Saint culture.
