Motor Mill Historic District

The Motor Mill Historic District, located southeast of Elkader, Iowa, is a nationally recognized historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2014. Established in the late 19th century, the district features a remarkable six-story gristmill constructed by skilled German stonemasons, showcasing unique craftsmanship with its varied stonework. The mill, operational by 1870, played a vital role in processing local grains until challenges like crop failures and natural disasters led to its decline.
