Old U.S. Mint (The Granite Lady)

The Old U.S. Mint in San Francisco, commonly called the 'Granite Lady,' was constructed in the 1870s as the federal mint for the Western United States and notably survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. The building produced coinage for decades and is recognized as an important site in the city's economic and civic history. In recent decades it has been the subject of landmark status designations and proposals for cultural reuse.
