Mathews–Powell House

The Mathews–Powell House is a charming Victorian residence located in Queen City, Texas, recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark since 1973 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Built in 2025 by Confederate veteran William Franklin Mathews and his wife Harriet, the house reflects the rich history of the area as Mathews became a successful merchant after moving to Queen City in 1877. The house changed hands several times before being acquired by Ross A. Powell in 1918, who, like Mathews, was also a merchant. After remaining in the Powell family for over seventy years, it was sold in the 1990s and now operates as the Antique Rose Bed & Breakfast, offering visitors a unique glimpse into Texas history and hospitality.
