Green-Wood Cemetery

Founded in 1838 in Brooklyn, Green-Wood Cemetery was one of the nation's early rural cemeteries and became a popular 19th-century cultural destination. The cemetery contains monuments and the graves of numerous notable 19th- and 20th-century figures and is noted for its historic landscape and funerary art. It remains an active cemetery and a site of historic tours and events.
