Narborough Bone Mill

Narborough Bone Mill, located on the River Nar in Norfolk, England, is a historic watermill dating back to the early 19th century. Originally owned by the Marriott Brothers, the mill was used to process bones from local slaughterhouses and the whaling industry into agricultural fertilizer. Notably, it also processed exhumed human remains from Germany, a practice that was ethically unchallenged at the time. The mill ceased operations in the late 19th century due to changes in river navigation rights and has since fallen into ruin, with only the waterwheel and remnants of the building remaining. Preservation efforts are currently underway, supported by a heritage lottery grant, making it an intriguing site for both tourists and researchers interested in industrial history and heritage conservation.
