Winchester Mystery House – Sarah Winchester

The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose was owned and continuously expanded by Sarah Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester of the Winchester Repeating Arms family. Sarah Winchester purchased the property and began major expansions in 1886; construction reportedly continued under her direction until her death in 1922. The mansion at this site is notable for its large size and unusual architectural features and today operates as a historic house museum open to the public.
