Mason City YMCA

The Mason City YMCA, a historic building in Mason City, Iowa, was established in 1892 and features Colonial Revival architecture designed by the Minneapolis firm Tyrie and Chapman. Completed in 1926, the building includes athletic facilities, a restaurant, offices, and dormitory rooms. It has a rich history, including connections to notorious figures like John Dillinger and hosting events such as a basketball exhibition by track star Jesse Owens in 1937. The YMCA has served as a community hub for various activities, including popular teen dances in the 1940s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
