Hopewell School (Cedar Creek, Texas)

Hopewell School, also known as the Hopewell Rosenwald School, is a historic site located in Bastrop County, Texas. Built between 1921 and 1922 during a period of racial segregation, this former African American school represents a significant chapter in educational history. Funded through a combination of land grants, community contributions, and support from the Rosenwald Fund, the school operated until the late 1950s when it became obsolete following the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015 and designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 2022, the site has undergone restoration efforts to transform it into a community center, preserving its legacy and promoting local heritage.
