Kretinga Bernardine Monastery

The Kretinga Bernardine Monastery, the oldest monastery in Northern Lithuania, dates back to 1605-1617 and is closely linked to the Church of the Lord's Revelation to Virgin Mary. Founded by nobleman Jan Karol Chodkiewicz, the monastery has a rich history marked by raids, repairs, and cultural significance, especially in the 20th century when it became a center for education and spirituality for Franciscans. Architecturally, the church showcases Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, featuring seven altars, intricate carvings, and one of Lithuania's oldest organs from 1774. Today, it stands as a state-protected cultural monument, attracting tourists and researchers interested in its historical and architectural heritage.
