Grand Ole Opry House and the founding of the Opry

The Grand Ole Opry traces its origins to the WSM Barn Dance radio program created by announcer George D. Hay in 1925. The institution helped launch and sustain the careers of historic country performers such as Roy Acuff and Minnie Pearl. The Grand Ole Opry House, the Opry’s current performance venue, is located in Nashville and remains a central site for the show's broadcasts and live performances.
