Vaillancourt Fountain (Quebec Libre!)

The Vaillancourt Fountain is a large poured-concrete fountain and sculptural work by Quebec artist Armand Vaillancourt installed in Embarcadero Plaza in 1971. Commonly called "Quebec Libre!" the fountain's brutalist form and political inscriptions provoked controversy and public debate after its installation. It remains a prominent, permanent public artwork on the Embarcadero and is managed by the Port of San Francisco.
