Seattle Central Library (architectural landmark)

Seattle Central Library, the main branch of the Seattle Public Library system, opened in its current Rem Koolhaas–designed building in 2004. The 11-story glass-and-steel structure is noted for its distinctive geometric 'floating' stacks and a continuously shelved 'book spiral' that allows non-fiction to remain in order across floors. It is a major civic and architectural landmark in the downtown neighborhood and houses extensive public collections and services.
