Clarence House, Brighton

Clarence House, formerly known as the New Inn and the Clarence Hotel, is a historic former coaching inn located on North Street in Brighton. Established in 1785, it is the last remaining coaching inn of its kind in the area, showcasing a Georgian architectural style with Classical features. The building has a rich history, having served as a hotel and a venue for civic meetings in the 18th and 19th centuries. After closing in 1972, it underwent various transformations, including a brief period as a restaurant and office space. Currently, it stands empty and has faced issues with vandalism and squatting, but recent planning applications aim to revitalize the site into residential flats and a new restaurant. As a Grade II listed building, it holds significant architectural and historical value, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
