Riviera Hotel & Casino implosion

The Riviera Hotel & Casino, one of the Strip's long-running properties which opened in 1955, closed in May 2015 and was demolished by implosion on May 16, 2016. Its implosion cleared a prominent Strip parcel and was widely covered in local and national media as part of a wave of redevelopment on Las Vegas Boulevard. The Riviera's decades-long presence made its demolition a notable marker of change on the Strip.
