Mission San Diego de Alcalá - 1775 Kumeyaay attack

Mission San Diego de Alcalá was founded by Spanish missionaries in 1769 and relocated to its present site in 1774. On November 4, 1775, Kumeyaay people attacked the mission; the mission was burned and Father Luis Jayme was killed in the confrontation. This event is a documented early conflict between local Kumeyaay communities and Spanish colonizers and is interpreted at the mission museum.
