Swan Ponds

Swan Ponds is a historic plantation house located near Morganton, North Carolina, built in 1848 in the Greek Revival style. This two-story brick mansion features distinctive architectural elements such as a low hip roof, a porch with bracketed eaves, and square columns. It was home to notable figures including Waightstill Avery, an early American lawyer, and his son Isaac Thomas Avery, who constructed the current dwelling. The site is significant as the birthplace of several prominent individuals, including politician William Waightstill Avery and Confederate officer Isaac E. Avery. Swan Ponds was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
