Santa Clara Valley groundwater basin under San Jose

The Santa Clara Valley groundwater basin underlies much of San Jose and functions as a major underground freshwater reservoir (aquifer) that supplies municipal and agricultural water. It is recharged by surface water from local creeks and engineered percolation/recharge facilities and is monitored to prevent land subsidence. The Santa Clara Valley Water District manages groundwater monitoring, recharge projects, and well permitting for this basin.
